The beauty of life is the unexpected random synchronicity found in the day-to-day.
There are good days and bad days.
Days we don’t remember.
Days we never forget.
There are days that start just like every other meaningless day and end up being cataclysmic pivot points in your life.
This reality is inevitable.
Some of you might recall an exact moment that changed the course of your life. A moment that has led you to this very moment you are experiencing right now.
Some of you are wondering when that magnificent moment will finally come.
The moment you defy the odds, the moment you challenge the expectations, the moment you prove yourself right or wrong.
Don’t blink. You might miss it.
Look at what happened in the NFL this weekend. San Francisco and the Eagles both lost as huge favorites. There was no way the 49ers were going to lose to PJ Walker and the lowly Browns. No shot the Eagles were going to lose to garbage Zach Wilson and the Jets.
No way the Tyrod Taylor-led Giants would get down to the 1-yard line and almost steal an upset win over the mighty Bills.
Anything can happen.
Any given Sunday.
What do we do with this idea?
What is the takeaway from realizing that our expectations, predictions, plans, projections, guarantees, and mathematical certainties mean absolutely nothing in this irreverently random chaos of events called life?
It provides a golden opportunity.
There is inherent value in knowing for certain that the only guarantee in this life is uncertainty.
All I know is that I know nothing at all.
If you can manage for a second to accept the humble fact that your stresses, your biggest problems, and your fantasy team woes mean nothing, not a thing in the grand scheme of things.
You can find a golden nugget that allows you to finally take a deep breath and accept the futility in your stresses.
You can do anything.
You can still be successful despite doing every single possible thing your entire miserable life completely and utterly wrong.
What a blessing.
Life can turn on a dime.
Once you accept that your greatest fears mean absolutely nothing, you can do anything.
Pay attention.
Life shows us this terrifying reality all too often.
Don’t you see someone defying the odds every week in your league?
How about in your life?
Use this perspective and apply it to the meaningless task you face in front of you.
You’re 1-4, your season is over. You might as well stop trying and quit. That way, you can justify this as a series of unfortunate events outside your control. It’s just bad luck, right?
Wrong.
If you accept the premise, then why can’t you turn all of your failures into the most remarkable of revivals?
Why can’t you defy all the odds?
Everyone thinks you’re dead already, so why not use that as a gift instead of wallowing in self-pity?
If nobody expects you to overcome the unclimbable mountain, you can use that fire to shatter expectations, defy the odds, and shock the world.
“Never give up” is cute because you think it’s a plebian’s war cry. But it’s not. It’s the truth. Why give up when the opportunity to do the impossible is ripe for the taking?
I encourage all of you to apply this to your life, to your work, and to your fantasy teams.
This is still a fantasy article, right?
Lock in and dig deep.
Use the leverage of being an underdog to your advantage and be grateful for the opportunities at your feet.
If everyone sees you as an easy out, an easy win, use that leverage to show them the valuable lesson that you should never count anybody out.
Let their hubris be the catalyst to your victory.
That undefeated team is going to blow you out this week. It’s settled. It is in stone. Don’t even trip.
I used to feel like underestimation was an insult to my capabilities, but it’s truly the nectar of my magic.
Let me be yours.
You’ll never win. You suck. You have no chance. Never, ever, ever.
Your move.
